Obama's Historic Speech to Israel
This speech was very good. Historic, yes. But I can’t help but notice that he is preaching to choir. Israel wants peace. Heck, its surrounded by enemies; who wouldn’t want peace? It has given up land in exchange for peace but its neighbors regularly turn their back on this. This is no fault of Obama. But when you place all of the burden of peace on a nation that has already and continually sought it, what do you expect to change? Yes, the palestinians have a right to self determination - and they used that right to elect governments such as Hamas who’s charter calls for the obliteration of Israel; a government who kills their own then blames Israel; who brainwashes their children; a government who shoots rockets (daily) at Israeli citizens then cries foul when the hammer falls. Here is a government that said “if Obama visits Temple Mount, it will be deemed a declaration of War” - Hamas.
Pressure for peace should be placed on Israel - because it has the tools and institutions readily and available - but that’s only kicking them on their backsides for pursuing what they already desire. Pressure needs to be placed on the palestinian leadership to come to the table and play the game as a civilized state. While it is good for Israeli’s to “place themselves in [palestinian] shoes” - the world needs to “place themselves in [Israeli] shoes.” Since their wall of separation has been put up, when have you last heard of a bus bombing in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv - once a regular occurrence. You expect them to take that down because “it’s mean” or “restricting?” Doubtful. I can go on, but good speech in all by Obama - in some rights - unfortunately, it will be deemed as naive and ineffective for those who need the biggest kick in the behind were not sitting in the room.
They call the 3 big monotheistic religions “desert” religions, not only because of their middle eastern region origin’s, but because the desert life is so simplified; sky and sand, there is and can only be One Creator.
What does that say about City life? How many gods are vying for your attention; set these before the true God. It always amazes me how wonderful it is to go visit nature; how small and disconnected you feel… yet so connected to something much more grand. The air, the space, the noise (or lack there of) clear your mind… everything slows down. Its simple.
Clarity.
Like His voice suddenly becomes more clear to you… but its not because you moved into a ”better service area,” but rather, you moved away from every distraction the enemy uses to entangle you.
The television & computer have taken away your eyes, the headphone & radio - your ears, the game council and everything else - you hands; politics and philosophy - your mind, success and dreams - your soul.
Come back home.
